PE and SPORT PREMIUM

The government is providing “A Sport Premium funding” to improve provision of physical education and sport to ensure all children achieve their potential.

Our vision at Greatfields Primary School is for the children to develop a love of sport and physical activity. We track the achievement of every child on a regular basis and do all we can to make sure each child achieves their potential. We aim to enthuse and inspire children to fully participate in a broad range of sports activities, developing their skills, knowledge and understanding of the need to have a healthy physical lifestyle. We have a duty to ensure that no group of children are disadvantaged due to their gender, ethnic origin, family income or background.

Our objectives for the Sports Funding are:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE.
  • Supporting and engaging pupils through organised activities during lunchtime and play times.
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport (including providing cover to release teachers).
  • Providing places for pupils in after school and holiday sport clubs.
  • Investing in new planning proforma and resources that support the new curriculum.

Examples of how we will spend this funding are as follows:

  • Employ specialist PE coaches to work alongside teachers and deliver high-quality PE lessons.
  • Provide professional development and training opportunities for teaching staff to improve confidence and expertise in delivering PE.
  • Purchase and maintain PE and sports equipment to support a broad and engaging curriculum.
  • Increase opportunities for pupils to participate in inter-school competitions, festivals, and sporting events.
  • Offer a range of extra-curricular sports clubs before school, during lunchtime, and after school.
  • Support targeted interventions for pupils who need additional help to develop physical skills, confidence, or participation in physical activity.
  • Develop leadership opportunities for pupils through sports ambassadors, playground leaders, and team captain roles.
  • Release time for the PE Subject Leader to monitor teaching and learning, assess impact, provide support to staff, and identify future priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with local schools, sports partnerships, and external organisations to share expertise and provide additional sporting opportunities.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes towards physical activity through whole-school events and initiatives.
  • Enhance opportunities for inclusive sport, ensuring all pupils, including those with additional needs, can participate and achieve success. Organise participation in national initiatives and themed sporting events to inspire pupils and increase engagement in physical activity.
